Includes windshield, backrest, saddle bags and floor boards, what a steal!
This bike is designed to appeal to entry-level cruiser riders with a low seat, reasonable weight, "sport classic" styling and moderate pricing.
Power comes from a clean-sheet-design, air-cooled, 60-degree, fuel-injected, sohc, 942cc V-Twin with four valves per cylinder (estimated to return 47 mpg). Bore and stroke are 85.0 x 83.0mm and the motor runs smoothly enough to be solidly mounted in the frame with no need for a counterbalancer. A five-speed transmission works through belt final drive.
Key to accommodating new buyers with this model—is a low 26.5-inch seat height. Claimed wet weight (including all fluids and a full tank of gas) is a light-by-cruiser-standards 612 pounds. An all-new steel-tube, double-cradle frame rolls on 130/70-18 front and 170/70-16 rear tires. Wheelbase is just over 66 inches. A large 320mm disc and twin-piston caliper work at the front, with a single-piston/298mm setup at the rear.
Styling is also important to entry cruiser buyers. They want a bike that looks unique but still has many classic styling touches. The V-Star 950's low, aggressive look—what Yamaha calls "sport classic"—is complemented by the lighter-looking 18-inch front wheel and cut-down steel fenders. Like the other Stars, the 950 has a full line of factory-designed accessories so customers can further express their individuality.
